There are a couple of different types of muzzle available and of course different reasons why you might consider using one. Perhaps it is a way of controlling your dog when walking, maybe your dog has a tendency to snap at other dogs, or perhaps you simply have a “bully breed” and want to ensure that people around you feel at ease and that you are in control.

Safety Muzzle: These are usually used as training aid when walking or even to stop your dog from barking. It has been said that they can have a calming effect on your dog and so could also be used in stressful situations such as trips to the vet. These are usually made out of nylon, are adjustable and easy to fit, designed to prevent chewing, nuisance barking and aggression.

Baskerville Muzzle: These are becoming increasingly popular as they provide more control and restrict your dog from biting or chewing. The good thing about these is that they are lightweight and still allow your dog to drink, and pant, keeping them as unrestricted as possible. The thing that i like about these ones is that they are probably safer for your dog. For example, if your dog was to run off and get lost, it would have a stronger chance of surviving until it is found due to the fact that it is still able to drink and pant. A dog that is restricted to the point that is is unable to drink and pant wouldn’t survive as long.

If you do decide that a muzzle is a necessary tool for you and your dog, remember that it should not be worn for long periods of time and that you should never leave your dog unattended whilst it is wearing one.
