A hunting dog refers to any dog that is used to assist humans in hunting and include several types of dog, developed for various tasks. The categories of hunting dog include: hounds, terriers and gun dogs, amongst some others. Some use acute scenting powers to follow a trail. Others demonstrate a phenomenal gift of stamina as they relentlessly run down quarry[1]. Included in this class of dog are the terrier and other small breeds, used for hunting vermin. In the UK there are strict laws regarding hunting with dogs and under the Hunting Act (2004) a person found guilty of illegal hunting can be fined up to £5000, as well as having the dogs and equipment confiscated[2].
